Chapter Five
Six hours later, Cashmere was a pacing ball of energy. She had woken up in an empty room with a raging fire to keep her warm. After she had taken a long hot bath, she got dressed in one of her silk nightgowns and navigated her way back downstairs to the kitchen. She had been happy that the food in one of the two side by side stainless steel refrigerators was appealing to her. She piled the plate with potatoes and roast beef, and if the meat was actually something other than roast beef, she didnât care. It tasted delicious. She sat in the quiet kitchen while she ate. Every so often, her eye strayed to the clock that was mounted on the wall by the china cabinet. It was well after midnight, and Pike still hadnât returned.
She sat back and sighed. Her Aunt had warned her about playing the bitch card for too damn long. She, herself, was well aware how being difficult with a man for too long could spell the ruin of a relationship. In spite of the fact that she was pissed, she knew deep down that she was happy that Pike was going after what he wanted, which was her. Now as she walked through the impressive home, she experienced a ping of disappointment. She had thought he would have taken advantage of their first night together.
âYouâre being silly,â she coached herself. âStop being a whiny ass punk and get what you want.â
She quickened her steps through the house and up the torturous flights of winding stairs to her room. A wicked smile formed on her face which grew with each step that it took her closer to the man she knew would be in bed waiting for her. Unfortunately, fate was having a laugh at her expense because when she opened the door, she found herself again in an empty room. Anger exploded in her as she slammed the wooden door.
Where the fuck is he? the voice in her mind screamed.
She stomped across the room and threw herself down in the leather chair before the fire. Her leg bounced up and down before she got to her feet, only to slump back down in the chair a few seconds later. She wanted him, damn it. Isnât that why he had brought her here, so where the hell was he? Where was all that talk about keeping her full and satisfied? Needing something to do, she snatched up the book that sat on the table between the two chairs. She turned the colorful pages forcefully until she realized that it was a photo album. Quickly, she went to the beginning and this time, took her time scanning the pages that was filled with his childhood memories.
Even as a child, Pike was cute as was his brother. The pages were filled with pictures of them as babies. Then photos of them romping around the countryside and in a humble looking home. A frown creased her brow when a pattern began to form.
